It is essential to prevent slippery surfaces or falls outdoors, in wet indoor areas, on pavements, and in squares, lobbies, hallways, industrial kitchens, public toilets and swimming pools, among other places.

In response to the demand for high standards in buildings and urban spaces, the Spanish Building Code’s Basic Safety Document SU 1 on the prevention of falls regulates certain requirements directly related to ceramic tiles.

The pendulum method is the established system of determining slip resistance values, in accordance with standard UNE-ENV 12633-2003. A floor covering’s slip resistance value determines the class to which it belongs, with a certain class being required for specific locations, as regulated in different standards.
